It’s that time of the year again to grow out our best mustaches for a good cause!
What started as an idea from two men in a pub in Melbourne, Australia to raise awareness for men’s health and prostate cancer back in 2003, has grown into a global fundraising phenomenon with millions of annual participants who’ve raised nearly half a billion dollars in funding for men’s health issues so far.
Here are some fast Movember facts:
- 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
- Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide with cases expected to double by 2030 to 1.7 million cases.
- $662 million has been raised and helped fund 1000 breakthrough men’s health projects in 21 countries.
Here at Busch Systems, Movember is a big deal and is a cause that hits close to home for many of us.
The fine gentlemen or “Mo Bros” taking part in this year’s campaign at Busch Systems brought their squeaky clean faces to work on the first day of Movember and were kind enough to pose for a “day one” picture. We’ll be bringing you a mid-month and month-end progress report (via the lovely graphic located below) on our guy’s mustache progress.
Some will look dapper, some will look grizzly, and some will…look exactly the same! How well you can grow facial hair really doesn’t matter when it’s all for a good cause.
Of course, it’s not just the guys growing (or trying to grow) mustaches that are doing their part to raise money to combat prostate cancer, everyone around here is doing their part.
Over the years we’ve been doing a ton of different fundraising initiatives to raise “Mo” funds including bake sales, fifty-fifty draws, selling bracelets, Movember card games, and a Mr. Mo contest for the most impressive facial hair.
The end of Movember is capped off at our offices by a chili cook-off. Described as one of the best days of the year around the office, we get to partake in a smorgasbord of deliciousness, judge the best company-wide chili and eat ourselves into a food coma all while raising funds for a good cause.
